Center for Biology and Society

Overview

The Center promotes exploration of conceptual foundations of the biosciences and their diverse interactions with society. By bringing together otherwise dispersed activities across multiple disciplines, the Center expands opportunities for intellectual ferment and increased impact by creating research and educational synergistic collaborations and communication.

New Research Initiatives

Faculty members are also involved in major new initiatives. The Embryo Project is expanding, with undergraduates contributing to the research through a new course and a new Web presence in the planning stages. Jason Robert’s work on Neuroscience and Society has been funded by the James S. McDonnell Foundation. Andrew Hamilton is leading initiatives in the History and Philosophy of Systematics. Manfred Laublichler’s research on Twentieth Century Theories of Development is now supported by an NSF Career Award.
