Community Outreach
The School of Life Science takes and active role in the community through various outreach programs.

Ask a Biologist: Ask A Biologist began in 1997 in the School of Life Sciences. The site continues to be developed, and maintained by a dedicated group of volunteers. It is designed as an educational resource for students preK-12, and their teachers and parents. Ask a Biologist is visited by over 2,000 people every day.

Graduate Partners in Science Education (GPSE): GPSE is an outreach program that was developed by graduate students, is run by graduate students, and is staffed by graduate student volunteers. The goal of GPSE is to provide an accessible opportunity for graduate students at Arizona State University to become involved in community outreach, while simultaneously addressing real needs in science departments at underserved public schools in downtown Phoenix. This program began in 2005, is growing annually, and is made possible with the financial support of Phoenix Preparatory Academy, ASU´s School of Life Sciences, ASU´s Division of Graduate Studies, and the contributions of anonymous donors.

Central Arizona – Phoenix Long-Term Ecological Research (CAPLTR): Ecology Explorers gives Phoenix area K-12 students and teachers opportunities to do real scientific research. Your research will be part of the Central Arizona - Phoenix Long-Term Ecological Research (CAP LTER) project being carried out by CAP LTER scientists.
