Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) Facility - Services

Operating temperatures range from ambient to 4K. Major equipment includes a Bruker Elexsys E580 spectrometer. CW measurements at S-band (2-4 GHz), X-band (9-10 GHz) and Q-band (35 GHz) are available, as well as double resonance techniques (CW ENDOR at X and Q-bands) for resolving couplings of magnetic nuclei to paramagnetic centers. A major upgrade of the facility in 1997-1998 added such capabilities as pulsed ENDOR, and Fourier Transform EPR. Measurement of stable light-activated paramagnetic species is possible. Work continues on interfacing a pulsed Nd:YAG laser to the E580, to provide detection of transient species with time resolution in the 10-100 nanosecond range.
