-- Applicants who will attend the university while holding an F-1 or J-1 visa must meet the requirements
of the U.S. Department of Justice and the Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) in addition to the
requirements of the Graduate College and the degree program. The CIS requires that a student
entering the U.S. on a student visa has adequate resources available to cover expenses during the proposed
period of study. Therefore, ASU must determine an applicant's financial eligibility. The completed
em>Financial Guarantee form and proof of available funds must be submitted before ASU can issue
an I-20/DS-2019. A breakdown of the minimum funds required for one academic year (Aug. – May) of study at

-- If you are from a country whose native language is not English, you must provide evidence of English
proficiency as indicated by acceptable scores on the TOEFL or IELTS.
-- Applicants who have met one of the following conditions at a regionally accredited college/university
in the United States do not need to submit evidence of English proficiency:
- earned a bachelor's degree or higher
- completed a minimum of 12 semester hours of graduate level study with a GPA of 3.00 or higher
- completed at least 90 undergraduate semester credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher
- completed the American English and Culture Program Advanced Level II and have the recommendation of the Director of the AECP
-- TOEFL and IELTS scores are valid when the test date is within two years of the first day of classes of the
semester you are enrolling at ASU. Applications will not be processed without valid evidence of English proficiency.
