Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Primary Faculty | Recommended Coursework Microbiology at Arizona State University is a broad, interdisciplinary, and rapidly growing field of research involving well-funded projects of basic, applied, and medical relevance. Faculty members conducting microbiological research have a tenure home in the School of Life Sciences, with many holding joint or primary appointments at the ASU’s Biodesign Institute. Other faculty members have tenure homes in the departments of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Civil Engineering, and Geological Sciences. Research areas encompass bacterial and viral pathogenesis, drug targeting and resistance, immunology and cell biology, microbial biotechnology, ecology, evolution, genomics, photosynthesis, and vaccine development.
