Q: What is the Computer Support Queue and how should it be used?
A: The online queue is a feature that allows users to enter requests for assistance and then later track the status of their jobs. The queue is available at the following location:
You will login with your ASURITE id and you can generate a new request to be added to the queue. Once you have submitted your request it will be verified, assigned a priority and then added to the queue as soon as possible. You will then be emailed a confirmation message along with your job's ticket number for later reference. You can come back to this page to view the status of your call.
ALL requests for assistance must be made via the online queue. Personal emails, stops in the hallway and phone messages might be forgotten or notes misplaced. To guarantee that your request is in our system, please use the queue consistently.
Q: I'd like to purchase a new computer or laptop. How should I go about doing this?
A: We can help you design and order your new computer. Please have an idea of the budget you'd like to stay within as well as what role the computer will play in your area. This will give us a better idea of what components to specify when requesting the final quote.
We recommend Dell or Apple for the purchase of all typical "office-use" computer systems. The one mandatory requirement for all computer purchases if you wish to receive hardware support from SOLS is that a full 4-year (3 year for Apple) warranty is purchased along with the system.
Q: About how long does it take to receive my new computer once it has been ordered? What needs to be done with it once it actually arrives?
A: Once we receive the quote from the vendor, the computer can be ordered immediately. It usually takes about 2 weeks for the computer to arrive once the order has been placed. When the computer arrives, we will schedule time to setup all of the common software and enter the network settings for you.
Q: What kind of support is available for Linux/Unix?
A: Many users are becoming interested in Linux as an alternative to using the Windows operating system. While we encourage everyone to explore the use of Linux or Unix, we are unable to provide any support resources at this time. Users should educate themselves on how to maintain their systems, update security patches, and install software. Only very limited advice is available at this time to assist users.
Q: Can I search this page for help?
A: Yes, you can and it will often save time. The general steps are to use your browser's Find or Search tool, key words being Find and Search. Often these tools are found under the Edit menu option. Once you locate the Find tool, type in the word you want to search for and press the Find or Search key. Any occurrence of the word(s) typed in the Find tool will be located on this page.
