Faculty

Lecturer
The School of Life Sciences at Arizona State University is seeking applications for a full-time position as Lecturer. The primary responsibility of this position is instruction in two inquiry-based lecture sections of our introductory biology for majors (BIO187) Material covered in BIO 187 includes evolutionary biology, Mendelian genetics, and ecology. The position also includes participation in the oversight and development of the course labs. Finally, the position will include instructing duties in two honors labs for BIO187 each semester.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in the life sciences and a record that demonstrates knowledge of, and experience teaching in, the biological sciences at the college level. We also desire applicants who can demonstrate using contemporary learner-centered pedagogy in the classroom, including appropriate technology and instructional techniques, and activities that encourage active learning and building communities of learners in and out of the classroom. The position is an academic year position for one year (10 months) and the potential for opportunities to teach for additional compensation in the summer. An excellent comprehensive benefits package is available. Salary is up to $48,000 (10 months) and commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Assistant Professor in Ecological Economics or Bioeconomics
The School of Life Sciences at Arizona State University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in Ecological Economics or Bioeconomics at the Assistant Professor level. The appointment supports an initiative to strengthen capacity in the field within the School of Life Sciences, and to promote collaboration with other academic units in ASU.

The successful candidate will be associated with the ecoSERVICES Group ASU, ecoservices@asu.edu. They will be required to teach graduate and undergraduate classes, conduct interdisciplinary research, seek external funding on their own or as part of a team, and publish in journals relevant to their areas of specialization, as well as perform appropriate university, professional, and community service. Postdoc

POST-DOCTORAL ASSOCIATE POSITION in avian behavioral ecology in the School of Life Sciences at Arizona State University. Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in Animal Behavior or a related field by time of appointment. He/she will assist in an NSF-funded comparative research project on carotenoid trade-offs in wild North American birds. Experience in avian nutrition, pigment biochemistry, or immunological techniques desired. Position to begin 15 July 2008. Tumor Immunology and Auto-immunity
Post-doctoral position involves the study of the role of antigen processing in immune recognition of melanoma antigens using mouse models, cell culture systems and patient specimens. Ongoing projects involve the role of MHC class II processing components in the pathogenesis of auto-immune destruction of melanocytes (vitiligo), in the recognition and destruction of melanoma following various cancer vaccination strategies, and in immune evasion. Post-Doctoral Associate Positions In Microbiology
Multiple post-doctoral associate positions in microbiology are presently open in the School of Life Sciences at Arizona State University to study.

1) Microbial diversity and adaptations in desert soil communities
2) Molecular genetics of secondary metabolites
3) Metagenomic analyses of large scale bioreactor communities
4) Genomic analyses of microbe-mineral interactions
5) Metagenomic prospecting for biohydrogen production, all with particular emphasis in cyanobacterial systems.

Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in Microbiology or a related, appropriate field at the time of appointment. Experience with genomic analyses and molecular biology is required for all positions. Starting date is negotiable. Team candidacies will be given consideration. Competitive salary and benefit package.
