Jianguo (Jingle) Wu

Professor of Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Science, joined ASU in August 2001. Dr. Wu received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Miami University, Oxford in 1987 and 1991, and was an NSF Postdoctoral Research Associate at Cornell University and Princeton University from 1991 to 1993. He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of Landscape Ecology. Dr. Wu has been Chair of the Asian Ecology Section of Ecological Society of America (1999-2000), Program Chair of the US Association of the International Association for Landscape Ecology (US-IALE; 2001), Councilor-at-Large of US-IALE (2001-2003).

My research areas include landscape ecology, urban ecology, and sustainability science.

Research activities in my lab, Landscape Ecology and Modeling Laboratory address several lines of questions:

  • How does landscape heterogeneity affect population and ecosystem processes?
  • How does landscape pattern (including habitat fragmentation) affect the distribution and conservation of biodiversity?
  • How does biodiversity relates to ecosystem functioning on different spatial scales?
  • How do socioeconomic processes drive land use and land cover change, which in turn affect ecological processes?
  • How can ecological information be transferred from small to large scales, and vice versa?

Our research has involved a variety of terrestrial ecosystems from North America to China. While the geographic idiosyncrasy of ecology must be recognized, it is the research questions that drive our studies.
