Graduate Initiative Fellowships for Training (GIFT)
GIFT has been established to provide support for SOLS graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in obtaining intensive training experiences that can only be met outside of programs offered at ASU. Workshops / courses must involve accredited institutions or organizations. A listing of relevant opportunities is given below; this list is not exclusive. The applicant should provide relevant information about the particular proposed course/workshop for which he/she is applying in the application materials. Dependent on funding, ten awards of up to $1000 will be made per application period. (20 per year)
Restrictions and requirements:
Student applicants must be Ph.D. students, in good standing, at least in the third semester of study in SOLS (exception: applicants for OTS can be students in their first year at SOLS). A SOLS student or postdoctoral fellow may obtain only one GIFT fellowship during his/her tenure in SOLS.
Upon completion of the workshop/training, individuals will be expected to provide a short report to RTI about their experiences and deliver an informal presentation about the course/workshop to their fellow graduate students or the postdoctoral fellow group with which they are affiliated.
To apply:
Applicants should submit: (1) Statement of Purpose, one page in length. (2) Letter of support from their advisor/mentor. (3) Detailed budget (4) Course details. The statement of purpose should describe why the proposed course/workshop is especially important for their development as a researcher. Applications will be accepted twice a year, April 1 and November 1.
Applications will be judged by the RTI Committee based on the individual´s qualifications (standing, transcripts, and letter of recommendation), the added value and relevance of the training course/workshop relative to the individual´s proposed/ongoing research, and the extent to which the proposed workshop content is not available at ASU.
