Costs
Rental rates are per person, per night, with scaling rates for ASU and USFS affiliates. Rates vary from $10.00 to $15.00 per person, per night based on affiliation and group size with reductions for groups of 15 or more. A refundable deposit of 25% of the estimated total fees is due before keys are given out. The deposit will be refunded, minus any expenses for damage or cleaning, after the keys are returned to the office and the proper check-out procedures are completed. All reservations are on a first come, first serve basis and subject to cancellation on appropriate notice by either ASU or USFS.
There are risks associated with remote field stations that can be minimized if the proper precautions are exercised. Wild and potentially dangerous animals include occasional rattlesnakes, bears, mountain lions, wasps, bees, and scorpions. While encounters are not common, care should be taken around the station and when hiking, especially at night. Keep the area clean by placing all waste and food in containers secure from animal access. Assistance animals are permitted, however pets are prohibited, except under special circumstances and with advanced permission. Pets are vulnerable to negative interactions with wild animals, especially skunks.
Users are responsible for direct response to any accident or injury. The ASU Department of Biology office should be notified as soon as possible after an incident. The nearest medical facility is in Globe, Arizona approximately 45 miles south on Highway 288/188 and US 60. The nearest public telephone is at Rockhouse, approximately 13 miles south on Highway 288. Fuel and other basic supplies are also available during business hours.
