COLLEGE REQUIREMENTS
To graduate from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS), a student must satisfy requirements of three kinds:
- Proficiency Requirements, which indicate a minimal level of competence in written communication, mathematics, and foreign language
- Distribution Requirements, which ensure that the student is exposed to disciplines outside their major field(humanities, social and behavioral sciences).
- Major Requirements, which involve concentrated course work in one field (click here to see major requirements for biology majors)
CLAS degree requirements are separate from the University General Studies requirements. Additional course work in the humanities and social and behavioral sciences is required. It is important to note that the CLAS designation of the humanities and social and behavioral sciences is, in some cases, different from that used for General Studies.
Students are encouraged to consult with an advisor in planning a program to ensure that they meet all necessary requirements.
NOTE:CLAS requirements vary with catalog year. Be sure you are consulting the appropriate catalog when reviewing required coursework.
