Director and Professor, School of Life Sciences

Welcome to ASU School of Life Sciences

Welcome! As the director, I’d like to personally welcome you to ASU’s School of Life Sciences. I invite you to learn more about our school and the many exciting education and research opportunities we have for undergraduate and graduate students.

Also, please feel free to visit the ASU Tempe campus and get to know us in person!

For undergraduates, we offer three degrees and six concentrations — all wonderful choices if you are interested in a career in medicine, biotechnologyconservation or microbiology, just to name a few. Our undergraduate program is a particularly strong choice for the health sciences — more of our graduates are accepted to medical school than any other school at ASU.

Getting involved as an undergraduate is easy and exciting. Opportunities include a robust, hands-on research programpeer mentoringservice learning and study abroad programs. If you are an incoming freshman or new student to SOLS, be sure to sign up for the Ignite retreat in August — it’s a great way to make friends at the beginning of your ASU career.

If you are a prospective graduate student, we encourage you to peruse our PhD, MA and MS degree programs. With more than 100 faculty members who are both leaders and experts in their fields, you will be supported by their guidance and expertise as you navigate your individual graduate experience.

Our graduate students are a close-knit group and as part of that group, you will find support, friendship, and many opportunities for personal and professional growth.

We strive for excellence in our teaching, our research, and our service to the community. We also aim to inspire your personal journey and transform your career in the life sciences. I hope you join us!

With Sun Devil pride,

Bertram Jacobs
